Public Speaking!!
On the 24th of March Alan Devine delivered his last talk of public speaking with TY's. He has over twenty years of experience as an actor. The days included activities including speaking in front of the class, making eye contact with different people, getting in a circle and saying a rhyme (Old King Cole) with different moves for each word of the rhyme. When we stood up in front of the class we had to make eye contact with everyone and using our hands. It was fun and enjoyable and there were a lot of laughing and it would be good to do something similar again
Seo Bothar!!
On the 21st of March TY students took part in an Irish workshop Seo Bothar as part Seachtain Na Gaeilge. The workshop provided information about the Irish Language. There is around 2,000,000 Irish speakers in Ireland. There were different activities including games, role-play and debates, where you could win different prizes including t-shirts, wristbands, CD's and stickers. The aim of the workshop was to encourage people to speak Irish more often in school and outside of school. We learned more things about the Irish Language and the country and it was enjoyable.
Ceilí Dancing!!
Every Friday TY's take part in ceilí dancing during the classes between break and lunch. 4A and 4D do the ceilí dancing during the class after break and 4B and 4C during the class before lunch. We first get into a big circle and go over some of the things we did the Friday before hand and after we do something new. We all pick a partner and when everyone gets pared with a partner we start to dance. We are doing the ceilí for a few more weeks and when its finished we have to dance in front of first years. Its fun and enjoyable.
Seo Linn!!
On the 11th of January an Irish Band, Seo Linn, came to the AVS to do a workshop with TY and 5th Year we went in different groups, 4A and 4B went first then 4C and 4D went in the first few classes and 5th years in the middle 2 classes and the 2 classes after lunch. During the last class TY's and 5th years sat in the assembly and Seo Linn set up their equipment and then we all started to sing and they recorded us singing Renegades by the X Ambassadors in Irish. After we sang several times they sang Waiting For Love by Avicii in Irish and one of their own songs. It was enjoyable.

CFR (Cardiac First Responders) Course!!
On the 23rd and 24th of January approx 55 TY students and approx 3 5th year students took part in a CFR course in the Library. The first group did the course on the 23rd from 9:10 to Lunch, the second group did the course from lunch to 4:00. The third group did course on the 24th from 9:10 to lunch. It was enjoyable and we learned how to do CPR on an adult, child and a baby using a defibrillator and how to do compression's.
African Dancing!!
On the 14th of December TY's took part in an African dancing workshop with Claire Harkin from Derry. First 4C and 4D went down to the parish center from 9:30 to 12:30 and 4A and 4B went down for the workshop in the evening. She showed us an African dance and we all copied her. We all then had to make up our own dance using the different dances she showed us. It was a fun and enjoyable experience.
Connect Mental Health Day!!
On the 13th of October TY's went to the Connect Mental Health Day in the Abbey Hotel. We had different talks and we did yoga and had a cooking demonstration. It was a fun day.
Carnival Workshop!!
On the 5th of October TY's took part in a carnival workshop. We did activities and got into groups and we went with a Halloween theme and each group got a Halloween characters eg. Mummies, Dracula, etc. and we had to act out scenes like the character we were given. We did a few activities and we got to get our face painted. It was fun and enjoyable.
TY choral workshop!!
On the 23rd of September TY's took part in a choral workshop with Veronica McCarron. We worked on singing, posture, diction & breathing and we sang a song to the principle and a few teachers and a few 5th year students. We were divided into different groups, Soprano 1 & 2, Alto and Basses. We sang Hallelujah and a song that included the line 'Christ before me, Christ behind me' It was fun and enjoyable.
Drama workshop!!
All the TY classes did a drama workshop on the 12th and 13th of September with Maura Logue. 4C & 4D took part in the workshop on the 12th and 4A & 4B on the 13th. We all took part in activities on the two days like freeze frames and improvisation. We also had to pass an object around and had to imagine what it could be. It was an enjoyable experience.
